Photography to me is catching a moment which is passing, and which is true. |

Though we as individuals are as unique and different as no two snowflakes are alike, there is a universal truth that we may often blush at first admitting to; we all want to at one time or another be our best. Even more specifically than that, the majority of us want to project our best to others, to show them what we are made of and shine brilliantly if only for a few moments in time. As we collect experiences and memories, those that we can look back on knowing that at one moment in time we were operating at maximum performance provides us with a feeling of pride and fulfillment: we were our best. Nese has a gift for knowing this modest secret resides in most of us. To shine, to radiate, to have us at our best moment displayed for all to see is a secret longing she is privy to and her gift is knowing when and where and how to capture this lightning in a bottle. I have been fortunate enough to be one of Neses subjects as I have been up on a stage attempting to give it my all singing in a local band. While up on that stage, there have been fleeting moments when I felt pride and satisfaction on the inside for my accomplishments. Time is of the essence and when that moment is over, it is but a memory to be looked back on fondly. Nese has a way however, of being able to record that vital moment; when being caught in the act is captured in such a way that you NEVER knew you could see yourself in such a light. Looking at Nese’s photographs of others in the music scene it becomes clear; what you didn’t think resided in you is given a chance to shine bright for all to see. Nese knows light and movement. She wields its effectiveness like a mad scientist or magician. She pulls out from her palette of colors and angles a perfect combination when you think that the stage you are standing on is devoid of substance and décor. More appropriately, she is a physicist able to measure with her lens the right amount of movement in a performer needed to manifest their best. She has made me look and ultimately feel like I am in performing in an opera house in Paris or a jazz club in New Orleans. She has captured me at my best when I didn’t know it and I am thankful to her for this. |
